Know How To Reduce Your Radiation Exposure

Saturday, March 11, marks one year since an earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan. The nuclear accidents that occurred in the tsunami's wake highlight the importance of understanding radiation exposure. While small amounts of radiation are considered safe, know how to reduce your exposure in the event New York City became exposed to unsafe levels. Remember these three steps:
  • Time: Stay inside until the threat has passed.
  • Distance: The greater the distance between you and the radiation source the better.
  • Shielding: Put as much heavy, dense material between you and the radiation source as possible.
